Great Way to Snack
The worst heat of a Texas summer is almost upon us (mid-July through mid-August). The kids still enjoy running and playing outside in 100+ heat. They drink plenty of water and eat plenty of snacks.
Here’s a great way to organize snacks for little ones (even big ones). Dole it out in the morning and leave them to their all-day grazing.
One muffin tin per person. It can be a 6 or 12 cup tin. Any color, any make, any model works fine. Much to our children’s chagrin, we only do healthy snacks unless we have company in the evenings. Fill each tin with an assortment of:
raisins, nuts, cantloupe, grapes, seeds, cherries, strawberries, whole apple, pineapple chunks, baby carrots, broccoli, cherry tomatoes, cucumber slices, celery, natural popcorn, etc.
You can leave the tins on the table or in the fridge. Little hands can help themselves and that means less interruptions for you! That’s the goal anyway, right? Just a handy little idea that I’ve picked up along life’s way.

Yanno, it’s sort of funny that you posted this and I read it.
Just this week I’ve decided to pack a full day’s lunch and breakfast for the kids with snacks in their lunchboxes. They LOVE waking up and finding what I’ve packed for them and I love not being interrupted while I work from home. Great idea! It works for me, too!
This is a great tip! Could be used for adults too, as a method of portion control!
I was just thinking about how difficult coming up with snack ideas has been for me lately and how much I’m tired of the “Mom, can we have a snack?” question. Your tip was perfect timing! Thank you!
Your comment on my blog made me smile! : ) I hope the earring holder works well for your daughter.
Now I have a use for that muffin tin! Great idea!
I agree with Audra above -what a great way to establish portion control… thanks for the tip!
Wow. What a fabulous idea!
That is an awesome idea. I’m totally going to do this.
How funny, I was just here and I went “home” and checked my comments and there you were. Love your snack idea.
This is a great idea. I need my son to eat more fruits and veggies. Thank you!
We do that too, it works great. Thanks for the tip.
Sounds like the perfect way to keep them from rummaging around in the cupboard, too! Great tip!
What a great idea! I’ll have to try to remember this when my kids are older. Maybe I should use this trick for me! he he
great idea! have to give that one a try!
What a great idea!! Thanks for sharing.
Boy I sure am glad that the spam code wasn’t algebraic…lol! Otherwise,I wouldn’t be able to say THANK YOU FOR AN AWESOME TIP! This is perfect and will keep my pantry from disarray. I’m going to go buy some little muffin tins this week!
Nice to meet you…came via WFMW
I, too love this idea. It also seems like a good idea to teach the kiddos the “save some for later even though you have access to it all now” principle.
That’s a great idea! Love it!
This is a great idea! Although I’d probaby have to get a 6 muffin tin instead of the big 12 muffin ones. Not sure I would have room for four of those in my fridge or on my counter.
Thanks for the tip!
That’s a great idea. I might need to try it with my daughter.
thanks – what a great idea!
