Mailbag Monday

Posted by Lisa

Once again it’s time for us to stuff our mailboxes full of freebies! If you don’t already have a secondary email (junk email), you might want to establish one just in case you get hit with 3,000 emails because you’re wanting these little extras. Yes, you need to sign up for all these freebies, but presents in the mail are sweet! I can’t vouch for any of these deals, but I’m taking advantage of them all.

There are two great sites I visit to get these deals. They have a ton of samples to sign up for. However, many of them require you to endure extensive surveys or a purchase (ever so small, but still…a purchase). Since I use a junk email account I don’t want coupons emailed to me. The sample freebies I list will always have easy forms to fill out (maybe a short list of questions I think are appropriate), will not have purchase requirements attached, and will come to your mailbox. I really try to weed out, best I can, offers that require too much personal information, extensive questions, junk offers, etc. I’ll do the work for you if you want to take advantage of these wonderful little freebies.

Here we go!

Advil
Procter & Gamble savings booklet
Ultra XCID Antacid
Reach Flosser Pack
GE Caulk Singles
Zingiber Rx Joint & Muscle Cream
Odor-B-Gone
Playtex Personal Cloths
Garnier Nutritioniste
Benefiber
Carmen Coffee
Pet Greens Treats
Spiru-Tien shaker cup
Wildflower Seeds
Schick Intuition Plus Razor

Photo Postcards Printed and Mailed for Free

Posted by Lisa

This was posted by moneydummy. I didn’t write a Saturday Round-Up post because I didn’t see anything so great this week (‘cept this).

Here’s a really cool and fun idea. HippoPost will send free photo postcards for you. You simply upload a photo, type in a message and an address, and click “send.” They’ll print it, stamp it, and mail it for free.

The “catch,” if you want to call it that, is that each postcard has a small ad on it; that’s how they pay for the service. Still, it sounds like it could be really great fun, so give it a shot!

CVS – Soy Joy Bars

Posted by Lisa

In case you haven’t made your CVS run for this coming week, there’s been a lot of internet chatter about the Soy Joy Bars. A lot of folks don’t like the taste of any of them. Some like a few flavors, but not other flavors. It seems the majority of the people like the strawberry and the mango flavors (pink & yellow pkgs.). So, if you’ve never had them before, this is for you.

I like the strawberry only. My daughter and husband like both strawberry and mango. My boys don’t like either. We haven’t tried the others.

Free is free, right? You can always give them away! I scored the freebies we like. In fact I took the last of each kind.

Other than that, I got paid to take the toothpaste off the shelves again. I always max on the freebies and money makers. How did you do?

Want My Expired June Coupons?

Posted by Lisa

Right now 400-800+ people read this blog every day. One of you MUST be able to put expired coupons to use – especially you in the Midwest where many grocery stores let you use expired Q’s. Be the first person to leave a comment (with your mailing address – I WILL DELETE YOUR MAILING ADDRESS BEFORE I POST YOUR COMMENT. I PROMISE – and I’ll mail you all my expired June coupons. I usually take 10 papers each week, so you’ll get lots of whatever I have left. If there are no takers, I’ll be sending my expired coupons overseas to ocpnet.org

Making a Price Book

Posted by Lisa

I know grocery prices are increasing so quickly that it seems a price book would be outdated in a few short weeks. However, if there has ever been a time to make and keep one, this is it.

If you’re one of those people who can keep the prices in your head, hats off to you. I could never do that. Seemingly everything in my life needs to be written down or it gets forgotten. I’m 44 years old and have never been able to keep prices in my head. I have a handful, but apparently that’s my capacity.

I keep a price book arranged in the same manner as my coupon book. The dividers are the same, and I keep 5 columns across the top of the page which read:

Item Description      Walmart      Target      Kroger      Tom Thumb

Rice Dream milk             2.88                                    3.88            3.96
1 qt.

Kraft mac & cheese         .33                  .44               .50               .52
small box

And the list goes on. I keep plenty of space for each price because I also break it down to PPU (price per unit). More helpful if you have one product in several different sizes. When I first made my price book I spent a day at all of the stores and didn’t do any shopping. I just walked around with my book, writing down the prices of everything we normally purchased.

I made my first price book shortly after we were married. We’ve been married 15 years now. I wish I had my original just to see how prices have changed.

Yes, it’s time consuming like everything else, but it just may be worth keeping to see if sale prices are truly good prices. Some people think that with GroceryGame, one of my favorite things, you really don’t need to keep a price book. However, even I, have found better deals (same item, same week) at another store on more than one occasion. I’ve also found stockpile worthy items that GG never mentioned. No slam on GroceryGame here. I absolutely love it and encourage everyone to play the game. GG does the work for me. However, GG isn’t perfect.

Consider how you would organize your own price book and when you would have time to make your first. Upkeep is much easier once it’s established. I usually update by looking at receipts.

Coinstar.com

Do you keep a loose change jar? Remember you can always go to a Coinstar machine and trade it in for cash or gift certificates. Most of my area coinstars are located in Kroger stores.
